Therapeutic visualization, or inner journeying, is an ancient practice which has been utilized for thousands of years to access intuitive guidance and promote self healing. Conversely, modern hypnotherapy is based on techniques from the 1800's and mid 20th century, which generally rely on therapist-directed subconscious suggestions. And while I am trained in classical hypnotherapy, I much prefer utilizing guided visualization - as it's client-directed and therapist guided, while clients remain comfortably conversational during the session. Additionally guided visualization is often considered more effective, as it shifts the role of the individual from a passive recipient to an active creator of their own therapeutic experience.
Specializing in Guided Visualization.
Guided Visualization isn't traditional hypnosis, in fact it's quite different. Therapeutic visualization is an ancient practice made popular by Carl Jung, which helps accesses intuitive guidance and self healing through inner journeying. Conversely, traditional hypnotherapy is often based on techniques which rely on therapist-directed suggestions to disrupt old patterns. And while I am trained in classical hypnotherapy, I much prefer utilizing guided visualization - as it's client-directed and therapist-guided; with clients remaining comfortably conversational during their session. Additionally guided visualization is often considered more effective, as it shifts the role of the individual from a passive recipient to an active creator of their own therapeutic experience.
Interestingly, guided visualization has similar healing effect to dreaming - as both systems allow the conscious and unconscious mind to communicate through metaphors, symbols, and/or narratives. While dreaming is an involuntary, natural nighttime process, guided visualization is a voluntary daytime technique which can offer the same physiological and neural benefits. And just like dreaming, guided visualization can process experiences/emotions, illuminate and resolve blocks, and offer incredibly helpful insights - all at a comfortable distance. As guided visualization is considered a "content-free" modality - meaning clients do not need to share specific details or rehash memories regarding their presenting issue; the work happens entirely through metaphorical representation.
